Alaskan cruise deals are very popular; they offer the passenger a wonderful experience and at the same time take him or her to areas that would otherwise be difficult to access.
Options available:
Cruise ship companies offer numerous options but as Alaska is on the west coast the majority of cruises begins and ends in Seattle WA or Vancouver BC although many passengers elect to go only north and then leave the cruise to visit the interior of the State. The destination is the port of Seward or Whittier, both of which are close to Anchorage. The cruise length is usually seven days in duration.
The round trip option is perfect if the objective is to witness the beauty of the Canadian and Alaskan coasts and then return to port, those that opt for a one way trip often head inland and then arrange to return to the lower 48 by plane at a later date.
Ports of call:
Nearly all Alaska cruise deals include a stop in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan although there are periodic cruises that call elsewhere, including Sitka. It may seem strange but under the provisions of the “Jones Act” which dates back to the 1880s, ships departing Seattle must make a mandatory call at a Canadian port, usually it is Victoria BC.
